Goal Getting WinnerCongratulations to the winners of the “Goal Getting” Challenge in the Total Female Hockey “Take Your Game To The Next Level” Contest. These two players did an awesome job of setting their weekly goals, taking action towards them each and every day, and then reporting back on their success every week for the last month. Their daily dedication to becoming the best player they can be is what allowed them to win this part of the contest and will help them get to the next level. Girls Hockey Fitness TestingI have to admit - I was one of those female hockey players who actually liked fitness testing. Although I didn’t exactly enjoy the entire (painful) process, it was great to know where I stood relative to my last test and see how I measured up against my teammates and my competition.

Today was a fitness testing day for me. I will be testing every month between now and the start of my season, and after traveling for most of January, I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t perform my best. Everything went well and now I know exactly where I stand and what my BIG goal is for the next month - to increase my performance by 5% in my next test. So how am I going to get there?

Girls Hockey LogoI can’t believe it’s already been seven days since I was enjoying the lovely weather in Minnesota (-40 with the wind chill!). After being on the road do seminars for two weeks straight, it was nice to get back on the ice coaching my team and watching them play this weekend. They have improved so much as a group and as individuals since the beginning of the season and I wanted to share a little bit of their success story with you (before you share your success stories from the second week of the Total Female Hockey “Goal Getting” Contest).

It was Hockey Day In Minnesota and aspiring girls hockey players from across the Twin Cities had a chance to watch two of the best female hockey teams in the country face off in an exhibition game. The women who play for Team USA and the Minnesota Whitecaps are amazing hockey players and terrific role models for all young girls. Check out this video interview I did with one of the first ever winners of the Total Female Hockey Transformation Contest. I wish I had this kind of focus and determination when I was 10.

Remember - when you work hard and dream BIG, anything is possible.

Team CelebrationWhen I was an aspiring girls hockey player, I set two HUGE goals of playing college hockey and making the national team. Pretty big stuff for someone who had only been playing hockey for two years! And even though I worked so hard every single day to achieve those goals, I was missing one critical thing that would have made it all so much easier.

Team CelebrationUsually when we think about goal setting, we focus on what we are going to accomplish as individuals instead of what we want to achieve as part of a group. I will spare you the - There is no “I” in TEAM speech - but it is absolutely essential that you and your girls hockey team re-evaluate the goals that you set at the beginning of the season and see how they match up with what you want to accomplish in the second half.

Workout GoalsThe majority of adults who set a new year’s resolution last week probably said that they were going to exercise more in 2009. Even though most girls hockey players don’t have a problem with not exercising enough, they still need to set off-ice training goals for the second half of the season if they want to take their game to the next level.
