Womens Hockey Players Crashed IceHave you ever heard of Red Bull Crashed Ice? It has taken place in Quebec City for the last two years and I have to admit it is pretty cool to watch.

Check out this picture from last year’s event and try to tell me that doesn’t look like a lot of fun.

Crashed Ice is a mix of skating, downhill skiing, boarder cross and plain ol’ craziness. I have to admit that the first time I heard about the event, I thought that it was a little too crazy for me (and my surgically repaired back). When something looks that ridiculous on TV, you can only imagine how scary it is in real life.

This year, for the first time ever, they are having a women’s division. Twenty women from across the country have qualified to be part of the event. I decided to have a look at who the competitors were in the women’s division - and there are at least 5 other women’s hockey players that I have played with or against participating.

So immediately I started thinking, “If they can do it, why can’t it?”. The fact that the grand prize winners in both the men’s and women’s divisions each take home $10,000, is even more incentive to think about making the trip out to Quebec City next year to give it a shot.

I have no idea how you would practice for this event (maybe by using a bobsled track?). All I know is that I would need lots of padding, a few shots of espresso and some really sharp skates, and I would be ready to go. Or at least that’s what I say right now…I should wait until I watch the race tonight and then I’ll let you know what my real thoughts on giving it a shot next year are.

Anyone want to join me?

Work Hard. Dream BIG.

How cool was that! A girl I used to play with in Calgary won the whole thing. Way to go Kerri!

Might just have to make the trip out next year.
