When I was a young female hockey player, I thought that in order to become a great player, I needed to train in the most high-tech facility possible with the fanciest equipment and a personal trainer watching my every move.

Now I know better.

It’s doesn’t matter where you train - it matters HOW you train.

The exercises that are going to make you a great hockey player can be done anywhere.

Let’s take the side plank these players are demonstrating as an example.

This exercise is going to help these players develop the stability in their core that is going to allow them to shoot harder, skate faster and move quicker.

They may be smiling (they are posing for a picture after all) but don’t let their smiles fool you into thinking that this exercise is easy.

They have each been taking the time over the summer to build the foundation of strength and stability that is going to allow them to have their best hockey season ever this year.

And if they can get their hockey-specific strength and speed training workout done in a hallway that looks like it is less than 2 meters wide, you can too.

Until next time,

~ Coach Kim
